Meet WidePane — the wide pane for AI‑assisted engineering.

One workspace for every model — on your device, your network, or a cloud provider. Local‑first, provider‑neutral, and built so your code never leaves without you saying so.

What's inside

A complete workspace, not a chat box.

Every capability a serious AI coding tool needs — with the safety architecture wired through all of it.

Local & cloud models

Pick per role: agent, edit, chat, completion, embeddings. Local, LAN, or cloud — your choice, made explicit.

Ollama, first‑class

Your GPU is a first‑class citizen, not a fallback. Point WidePane at any Ollama instance on device or your network.

VS Code extension

An activity‑bar workspace, inline edit, native ghost‑text completion, and status — free, no account required.

Native desktop app

A Tauri workbench with Monaco, a real terminal, file explorer, and diff review — Windows executable, MSI & NSIS.

Secure provider transport

All model traffic runs through a trusted Rust host. API keys live in the OS keychain and never touch the webview.

Agent mode

Structured tools with universal permission review, approval scopes, audit trail, and a hard never‑auto ceiling.

Indexing & retrieval

Lexical by default, hybrid when you add an embedder. A transparent context manifest for every request.

Inline edit

Structured diffs, hunk‑level acceptance, safe atomic apply, and operation‑level undo. Nothing applies without review.

Privacy / local‑only

Local means local. A policy gate blocks cloud and unapproved LAN requests — enforced in code, not a promise.

Why it's different

Sovereignty over your code and your models.

WidePane

  • Any model — local, LAN, or cloud, chosen per role
  • Local‑only mode enforced at the provider gate
  • Keys in the OS keychain, never in the webview
  • Every agent action reviewed, scoped, and audited
  • Open source, no lock‑in to one vendor's models

Single‑vendor tools

  • One provider's models, one subscription
  • Cloud‑anchored; local is an afterthought
  • Trust‑us privacy, not verifiable in code
  • Limited control over what the agent may do
  • Closed, with your workflow tied to the vendor
Security & privacy

Privacy you can check, not just read about.

The webview can't make a network call, read a file, or run a process except through a fixed set of typed, permission‑mediated commands. Secrets never cross that boundary.

🔒

No silent uploads

There is no code path that falls back from a local model to the cloud. Local‑only blocks it at the gate.

🗝

OS‑keychain secrets

API keys and headers live in Windows Credential Manager / macOS Keychain / Secret Service — referenced, never exposed.

🧾

Audited actions

Every tool call is validated, risk‑classified host‑side, approved, and recorded as redacted metadata.
